Think about indigenous toys/learning materials that are very famous from your State/ UT and share your ideas how you can use them in teaching learning of different concepts, skills etc.

Potloi pabung ,laidhibee a famous toy made of cotton and clay ,animals figure made of clay ,wood are some of the famous toys in our state.these toys can be use in learning of stories or folktales of our state and can be of help to identify the names of animals or birds in our state.it will give the basic knowledge about their state or serves as a relation bonding for new generation to old.

    Clay models and wooden figures resembling animals, objects, etc. can help them discover and create curiosity and eagerness to learn.

  3. One of our indigenous toys that we played in our early childhood time is chakthongbi (mainly by girl child) with dolls. It tells us the rolls of different members of a family. Maroom konbi is also another game that we play with small pebbles. It gives us the concept of counting,distribution and also increases cognitive capacity.

  4. A bamboo gun is a popular toy among the children of m tribe. All we need is a bamboo with a small hole, a stick and wet paper. When we put wet paper on both holes and push the other one against it, it creates pressure inside making the other paper pop out. The popping sound is incredibly loud.

    This kind of "do-it-ourself" to can be used to teach the basic science involved while entertaining the children.

  5. Clay,bamboo and old newspaper are some indigenous products from which toys are made. Its cost effective and binds children with their culture and ingrained in them the idea of recycling of waste products which can be helpful in giving them toys to play with and learn. Also this indigenous products give them the idea of different form of products as in clay, bamboo, paper which they have experience first hand and thus they can understand and memorize the item properly.

Handmade cloth dolls,newspaper stones are some of the indigenous toys / learning material that are very famous from our state.Arranging stones for target while playing helps us in teaching the students about the concept of decreasing and ascending order, also we can tell them the big or small dolls after showing the toys and the newspaper cut in different shape.

    The most popular indigenous toy of manipur is Laiphadibi or Laidhibi which are handmade from old waste cloth.     out of wood like kangtalai in our tribe which is like a small vehicle which is driven by one from a hill slope which has a brake and steering wheel which by itself we can know the children creativity and do it yourself .
    And also traditional toys such as

Materials such as wood, Bamboo, newspaper, waste materials are generally used in making indigenous toys in our state and thus this helps children to learn about the texture, colour, size and shape etc.sometimes the local toymaker uses seeds, feathers, coconut shell,areca nuts etc.and here children can learn the name of the different trees and learn about their environment.

  24. An important Indegineous game Or play we called in manipuri Marumkonbi teach us counting and distribution skill.we are making 5 Or 7 circle⭕ then distributing small stone or pebble under certain rules...... Now a days parents don't like as it was dirty to play so needs to modify.

  26. Laiphadibee,a doll is an indigenous toy of Manipur. We can use them in teaching culture and traditional of Manipur. Different laiphadibee can be made to represent different members of a family. Then their relationship in a family can be taught. Teachers can also easily teach story to children by playing with laiphadibee.

    1.Dolls (laidheebee) made from rage clothes, straws, cotton in human forms of different stages .They can be used to be dramatic story telling, depicting different roles.
    2.Different shapes and sizes of pebbles and clay models of birds,
    fruit and vegetables and names of different objects.
    3. Paper made aeroplane, boats, kites
    4. Bamboo and wooden toys in different models are also common in our tradition that can be used for teaching shapes and sizes of different concepts and skills.
    All these things will develop creativity, imagination, depiction, fine motor skills.

  37. Some indigenous toys and games that we played as a child were cheitek-kotpi which involves only two sticks (a short one and a long one). This games helps us in counting, addition and subtraction. Another game is Maroomkonbi which was played with small pebbles and this also involves basic mathematics. Another game is chakthongbi generally played with dolls made from locally available cloth. This games depicts the roles of different family members in a family.

Indigenous toys or learning materials that are very famous from our state we can use in teaching learning of different concepts, skills etc. are tamarind seeds, marbles made of mud, broken pieces of mud pots, bamboo guns, bows and arrows, banana leaves and so on. These materials can be used in different ways, like tamarind seeds or mud marbles for teaching counting, addition, subtraction, division,etc. Broken pots for teaching shapes, and also using a piece of it in a court a kind of game can be played by jumping especially by girls. Likewise, in our area we played such different games.

In Manipur, some of the famous indigenous toys which are mostly used in learning materials are mentioned bellow because they are made from the locally available eco-friendly materials for instance waste clothes of tailoring units, paper yatch and paper toys from waste papers, cloth and rag dolls/puppets. And Wood, bamboo, mud, newspaper, waste materials are also generally used in making indigenous toys and thus, this helps children to learn about the texture, colour, size and shape etc. Sometimes the local toymaker uses seeds, feathers etc and here children can learn the names of the different trees and learn about their environment.

    Toy as a teaching- learning resource has the potential to transform classroom pedagogy. We need to promote indigenous toys while using toy based pedagogy so that children can have easy and cost-effective access to them.

    The use of Indian traditional toys and games in classrooms contributes to the appreciation of indigenous products and their usefulness. Children also get introduced to Indian culture and start taking pride in their identity. This happens as a gradual process but if it starts germinating in the foundational and preparatory stage.

    The indigenous toys give them emotional satisfaction because they depict the familiar figures and the children can easily connect with them. Our indigenous games are also very popular and they keep children and adults engaged for longer duration. Such games generally promote agility, strength, balance, reflexes, hand-eye coordination, accuracy, strategy, intuition and patience along with the skills of problem solving, decision making etc.

The indigenous toys/learning materials in our state, Manipur are laiphqdibi dolls, rag dolls/puppets, ivory, ceramic pottery, cane and bamboo work, mats made of reeds, fruits and animals made of mud , flower vase, etc which are made from locally available eco-friendly materials. These help children to learn about the texture, colour, size, shape, culture, tradition, emotional satisfaction and also helps in attaining 3 developmental golds of FLN.

The use of traditional Indian games and toys in schools will make children connect with their heritage and will have a lifelong positive impact. One such indigenous toys/learning materials that are very famous in our State is kite, kite making and kite flying helps not only to spark creativity and imagination but also will help refine their coordination skills and development of fine and gross motor skills which is very important to help them discovering their independence and positive self-esteem.
    Kite flying can also be used to teach difficult concepts very easily exploiting a child’s interests and curiosity, like how wind helps a piece of specially designed paper soar high up and how we can manipulate the kite with a string attached to the kite.

Teachers can also use the dolls to act out stories which can teach the students moral values and life lessons. It can also be used to teach the child more about the state's culture and heritage.
