Activity 6: Share Your Thoughts

To assess the child on number operations, a teacher frames a question paper at the end of the lesson with multiple choice questions only. Another teacher divides the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units and observes how the child responds to activities designed for each sub-unit. The teacher maintains a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and uses it to write the report looking at their portfolio. Which strategy would you like to adopt in your class and why? Share your thoughts.

  1. As assessment is a check or evaluation of someone's skills, I would like to adopt the strategy that divides the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units, and to observe how children respond to activities designed for each sub-unit. I would, then, maintain a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and use it to write the report looking at their portfolio.

I prefer this because assessments can happen as you are working or playing together and not as sitting down and taking a test. For example, to assess young children's understanding of numbers, we need to check to see if they recognize numbers and can correctly correlate a number with its respective amount of items. Again, to assess counting, we can ask the children to count a group of objects. This way, we will be able to see and hear how much understanding the children have of counting numbers.

  2. I would like to adopt a strategy of a teacher who maintain a file of each child's work because every child learning and understanding ability is different.we,as a teacher need to know that and act accordingly to their needs.

  3. Assessment is an integral part of learning. It should not be focus on testing the memorization skills of the learners. One tool may not fit the learning level of the child. So I would like the strategy where a teacher decide the concept of the numeral operation into smaller sub units and observe the child responds to activities designed for each sub unit and maintained a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and uses it to write the report looking at their portfolio. This type of strategy is needed because every child is unique and come with different atmosphere.
There may be slide difference in learning outcome it every children should achieved whe the assessment is done continousely.

Assessment is a check or evaluation of someone's skills, I would like to adopt the strategy to make any task easier to solve.

  6. I would like to adopt... Learning level assessment test... because in this strategy a teacher can assess a learner using a range of skills which a teacher identifies as essential for understanding.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I would like to assess the students from the lessons we teach by part by part that is by dividing sub units. It can reduces stress to the students. So that student can participate more and perform well.

  8. I would like to assess the students from the lessons we teach by part by part that is by dividing sub units. It can easily understand the lessons by students.

  9. I would like to divide the lesson into sub-units and teach them by part by part and see if they understand the lesson properly or not.

  10. I would like to adopt second teacher's strategy. It is because
1.it would draw the attention to the learners
2 it would reduce the pressure to the learners, etc.
Above all assessment must be conducted wherever it is needed and no need to fix at the end of the chapter

  11. I like to adopt the 2nd one. Dividing the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units and observing how the child responds to activities designed for each sub-unit can help us to understand the level of the child and diagnose the problem she has as early as possible.

  12. A teaching strategy is the method you use to convey information to your students. There may be a particular strategy that works well with your group of students one year that won't work with your students the next year. Because of this, it's important to have lots of teaching strategies in your toolbox.
I would like to adopt a strategy of a teacher who maintain a file of each child's work because every child learning and understanding ability is different.we,as a teacher need to know that and act accordingly to their needs.

  13. The strategy of assessing students by subdividing the lesson into sub units would be best rather than testing at the end of the unit as it can formative to learn about the students strength and weaknesses ,reduces burden from students, provide opportunity to change pedagogies according to the need of children.

  14. I would would choose the strategy of the teacher that divides the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units and observe how the children responds to activities designed for each sub-units beacause this type of assessment of the children requires the teacher to participate wholesomely by involving in a playful manner with the children and this will give indepth understanding if the child really understand and recognise the concept of number as well as correctly correlate a number with the corresponding amount of items thus providing the teacher a more comprehensive and accurate information regarding a particular child and prepare a portfolio and write a report by looking at the portfolio.

  15. I would like to choose the concept of number operation into smaller sub-uints and observed how the students responds to activities designed for each sub units because by doing this we can asses the problem in a play way method with the students and we can find out the doubt if the student have any doubt...

  17. I would like to adopt learning levels assessment tests for learners, where I, as a teacher can identify the learning gaps in learners and help them in their better understanding. These tests can also help me in reflective understanding of my pedagogy.

    ReplyDelete
  18. As a teacher I would adopt the assessment technique that would check the students from various background. I would observed the students understandings in various manner like expression, writing, and response.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I would like to assess the students with the lessons and sub units that are easily understood by them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would prefer to adopt the second strategy as formative type of evaluation will be more efficient to access the students learning as they are still in the basic level of the concept of number operation and in turn maintains a file of each child's portfolio of the sample work done.

    ReplyDelete
  21. for me I will choose concept of number operations into smaller sub-units. Because, I will help to identify the poor part of the student and student will also easy to do in part by part without confusion.

  22. I would like to adopt the strategy of the teacher who divide the concept of numbers operations into smaller sub-units and observe how the child responds activities designed for each sub-unit and maintains a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and uses it to write the report looking at their portfolio because from this strategy I will understand and know which child's is weak and how to make the Child's understand his/her study and make it fun so that he/she enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would like to adopt the strategy where the teacher divides the concept of number operations into smaller sub units and observes the response to activities done. To get a better understanding of the child's understanding and knowledge and his/her concept on numbers it would be wise to include more activities instead of just multiple choice. Where multiple choice may or may not just be luck.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would like to adopt the second teacher's assessment strategy because dividing the whole portion to be assessed into smaller units helps the teacher identify the weak points of the students. Thus he can improve the teaching learning process. Besides maintaining the records of the students is also a must.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would like to follow the strategy of the teacher who keeps a file and divides the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units. It's so because it will be easier to assess the child's knowledge and understanding of concept.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would follow the second procedure where I divide the concept of number operations into smaller sub-units and observe how the child/children respond(s) to activities designed for each sub-unit. I would also maintain a file of each child's sample work done in that unit in a portfolio and use it to write the report looking at their portfolio.
The reasons for the above mentioned factors explained briefly and respectively are as follows-
Dividing concepts into smaller sub units allow detailed and simplicity comprehension and learning rather than an entire complex unit.
Maintaining a file for each child respectively will enable clear understanding of each child's development rate and process as each child has a different learning rate and process and hence a separate file will be a guide to also guide each child accordingly.

  27. The strategy I would like to adopt in the class are quizzes,tests,stats-administered standardized tests and essays as these are the most familiar assessment strategies.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I will follow or adopt the second assessment process because it allows flexibility in learning with less pressure and accepts the differences of children's potentiality in learning.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would like to adopt the second strategy who maintain a file of each child's work because every child has different learning and understanding ability. With this we can help and understand the needs of every child.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The strategy where the teacher divides the lesson into sub units and maintains the portfolio for each child would be more effective and should be adopted.
Dividing the concept into smaller units and observing the children can help us to assess whether the child has learned and understood the concepts. This can also help the teacher identify where the learning gaps and help to the teachers to develop strategies to help children learn. Assessing the child for multiple concepts can create confusion in the child ability to understand and apply the concept correctly.
The strategy to assess the lesson at the end of the lesson can be done after the child has learned and has been assessed for each concept to assess the child overall understanding of the lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I prefer the latter one because a child can understand better if a topic is sub-divided into parts

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would prefer the second option as a child should not be pressurized to learn and perform at a time . We as a teacher should always remember that a child should enjoy what the teacher is teaching , rather memorize it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would like to adopt the second teacher 's assessment strategy because dividing the whole portion to be assessed into small units helps the teacher to identify the weak portion of the student, understand the need of every child. Then teacher can apply appropriate teaching strategy for better teaching learning process.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would like to adopt the strategy of second one because to divide the lessons into sub units and teach them by part by part,it can easily understand the lessons properly.

    ReplyDelete
  35. To me the second method of assessing the students by dividing the unit into sub-units and recording the assessment in the form of portfolios for individual students is best. I think by doing this I can bring out the area which I can do improvements by changing pedagological processes, method employed in teaching them. In teaching numeracy we need to do a lot of assessment in checking their understanding as well as to help them in time of need.

  36. Assessment is a check or evaluation of someone's skills, I would like to adopt the strategy to make any task easier to solve.
to assess young children's understanding of numbers, we need to check to see if they recognize numbers and can correctly correlate a number with its respective amount of items. Again, to assess counting, we can ask the children to count a group of objects.

  37. Proponents of small-unit organization argue that it
dispels alienation, supports a more coordinated and concentrated
instructional approach, and offers teachers more input into the
    decision-making process.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would prefer use of the second strategy as it would be more effective.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Classroom assessment is about collecting data, every assessment provides a story. Teachers have to interpret that story and decide what they are going to do with the information that it provides. So every methods count and different methods can be employed depending on the situation and demand. Every assignment should be scored because of every assignment matters.
Also portfolios are tremendous assessment tools. They provide teachers, students, and parents with an in-depth look into student progression over the course .

    ReplyDelete
  40. I prefer the concept of number operation into smaller sub-uints because I can use them to adapt instructional strategies where evidence shows that students either are or are not learning what they were taught.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The second teacher's strategy is ideal for assessment as it can help you begin to construct a well-rounded and authentic picture of each child so you are better able to plan your program to build on individualized strengths and support each child's growth.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It will be better to make a file for every child to record their performance during the teaching learning process. We can give chance to each and every students to test their understanding from the every day lessons that we have taught in our teaching learning process. It will help for the assessment also.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would opt for the second option as the first option only pressurized the child to memorize not actually learning it .

    ReplyDelete
  44. According to the students different types of strategies would be used in the classroom for their better understanding.

Because, the classroom environment cultivates the spirit of exploration and visualisation of concepts that lead to mathematical thinking. Different ways of calculations and strategies for problem-solving need to be explored (other than employing standard algorithms) along with many diverse ways of communicating the results of exploration. The teacher should modify her role from an information provider to a facilitator who creates situations/contexts for creating understanding and exploration.

Creating facts and formula – not promoting rote learning of facts, formulae and procedures should be encouraged in a mathematics classroom. Instead of emphasising on standard algorithms, the teacher should encourage diverse ways of problem solving with peer learning and collaborative learning.
A teacher should provide support and confidence to the students when they struggle with problem-solving so that mathematics anxiety is avoided.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would like to adopt the second teacher's strategy because it would reduce the pressure on the students.By dividing the whole lesson to be assessed into sub units will help the teacher to identify the weak portion of the students and the students can easily understand the lesson as well.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would adopt a strategy where a teacher maintains a record of every child because that helps the teacher to understand the child more and helps how to deal with the child.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Assessments can happen as you are working or playing together and not as sitting down and taking a test.

  50. I would like to use the method where the concept of number operation is divided into smaller sub-units and observe how the child responds to activities designed for each sub-unit. One reason is because the multiple choice question method doesn't necessarily help the child understand the concept of number operations thoroughly, as the options play an important role in answering the questions.
